Advance care planning in Western Australia

Forms and requirements for writing Advance Care Directives and appointing substitute decision-makers vary between and states and territories.

In Western Australia, there are three components of advance care planning - an Advance Health Directive, an Enduring Power of Guardianship and an Advance Care Plan.

The Guardianship and Administration Act 1990 was amended by the Acts Amendment (Consent to Medical Treatment) Act 2008, to include an Advance Health Directive to refuse treatment for a current condition or terminal illness.
