ACP in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations

As western bioethics may differ from that of someone from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) population, start the conversation by asking about the person's beliefs and discussing values with the family. Ask the person if they have any special needs, and involve spiritual leaders in these conversations if the person chooses. Be mindful of the fact that religious and cultural beliefs can differ between families, communities and even individuals.

Advance Care Planning Australia has fact sheets and other resources available for individuals, substitute decision-makers and aged care workers in twelve languages. These fact sheets explain what advance care planning is, how to make a plan, and how to contact someone to talk about advance care planning from the Advance Care Planning Advisory Service through an interpreter.
