In the past 12 months, ACPA has bolstered its policy advocacy program in an effort to increase the awareness and uptake of advance care planning in Australia.

Driven by our belief that all adult Australians should have choice and control over their future medical decisions, we have identified opportunities to prioritise advance care planning in relevant legislation and policy and education frameworks.

To date we have capitalised on more than 25 consultation opportunities across multiple jurisdictions and sectors spanning aged care, primary care, mental health, disability chronic disease and more.

Submission highlights include:

  • National Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care Information Priorities
  • RACGP Curriculum and Standards for General Practice
  • Royal Commission into Aged Care
  • South Australia’s Advance Care Directives (Review) Amendment Bill 2021
  • Tasmania’s Guardianship and Administration Amendment (Advance Care Directives) Bill 2020
  • WA’s Health Strategy for Advance Care Planning Education and Awareness Raising: For Health Professionals and the Community

We are pleased with the progress of our policy advocacy and confident that these changes today will translate to greater choice and control for more Australians tomorrow.
